Vol. 185, No. 3

GENERAL COMMENTS: This issue is worth reading from cover to cover; the Kenneth Wood piece is outstanding. But God as a bacterium?

LETTERS: These letters are uniformly thoughtful and interesting.

GIRL POWER: Kimberly Luste Maran's editorial is a little preachy, but she does mention the Spice Girls and Victoria's Secret, a first for the Review. A little risky but cool!

GENEREAL COMMENTS
This is an issue that Adventists of all persuasions can enjoy. There were two articles that deserve BOUQUETS along with special mention, and they are. . .

STRAIGHT FROM THE MULE’S MOUTH by Gerald A. Klingbeil in which stories about mules in the ancient Mid East confirm the Bible’s accuracy. It is a brilliant piece of historical reporting and a MUST READ.

July 2009 - Vol. 5, No. 7

Angel Manuel Rodriguez, Director of the Biblical Research Institute of the General Conference, evidently believes that HONORING THE CREATOR GOD includes the invitation to join in a witch-hunt! His editorial purports to be written in response to the following question: “Is it true that some Adventist scientists and theologians no longer believe that God created everything in six literal days?” The answer to that question is “yes”.

May 28, 2009 - Vol. 186, No. 15

GENERAL COMMENTS
This review is a “feel good” edition. Kids are really WHY WE CARE. Wilona Karimabadi and the KIDS VIEW gang along with Ellen White’s piece, JESUS, GENTLE SHEPHERD remind us that children are the future, and they need and expect us to help them prepare for it, in this world and the next. I asked my 8-year-old grandson about Kids View the magazine, and my report and comments will conclude this review.

Stephen Chavez’ editorial comment, DON’T PANIC, was refreshing in that it was wise rather than religious.

Why Are We Dying?

ADRA Malawi recently won Malawi Broadcasting Corporation’s “Radio Play of the Year” award at the 2008 annual Entertainers of the Year Awards held in the city of Blantyre. Michael Usi, Project Manager for ADRA Malawi, produces and directs ADRA’s winning radio and television program, Tikuferanji. Tikuferanji, which is Chichewa for “why are we dying?,” promotes open discussion about the spread of STDs and encourages Malawians to be proactive in the country’s fight against HIV/AIDS. Usi also won MBC’s “Actor of the Year” award for his contribution to the program.

GENERAL COMMENTS
This issue has a lot to recommend it: two Stephen Chavez pieces and a great dog story. The rest of the issue deserves above average marks.

BOUQUETS
Stephen Chavez’ editorial, INTERSECTIONS, makes the Gospel message personal and relational.

Adventist World - NAD Edition | April 2009, Vol. 5, No. 4

GENERAL COMMENTS
This issue contains four of the finest articles it has been my pleasure to review in the year and a half I’ve been doing this.

March 26, 2009 - Vol. 186, No. 9

GENERAL COMMENT
Pastor Erick Cerritos, 33, was murdered in Guatemala, a place where 12 church members have been murdered, 100 extortions and 10 kidnappings have taken place since 2008. All of us should daily and prayerfully remember Adventist pastors and believers whose dangerous, unflagging and confident faith inspires the world.

BOUQUETS
Even in this excellent issue, the following six pieces deserve special mention. Ray Adams’ editorial, FOUR ELEGANT WORDS, elucidates the subatomic world of the Higgs boson.
